Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Thoughts: Season 3, Episode 13 “Parting Shot”

WARNING: There are spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

Bobbi and Hunter

We knew this day would come once the Bobbi and Hunter spinoff series, Marvel’s Most Wanted, was announced, but I don’t think any of us was expecting it so soon. But the time has come to say goodbye to two characters who were, at times, the most interesting on the show. They’re so great, in fact, that when their own series was announced I thought it was a huge mistake. The Inhumans were just being introduced to the series and the writers had yet to begin setting up the Secret Warriors. At that time, Bobbi and Hunter kept the series exciting. They’re still great characters, but the developments of the story from the end of last season until now have made it uneccessary for them to carry the show. Agents of SHIELD is more of an ensemble cast than ever before, and new Inhuman characters will probably be added once the Secret Warriors storyline is fully in place. Bobbi and Hunter didn’t become expendable, but giving them their own series means that more stories can be told and these two great characters won’t get lost in the background.

Inhumans and Secret Warriors

I feel like now is the time for the Secret Warriors arc to get into full swing. With Bobbi and Hunter gone, there’s room for more characters on the team. One or two more Inhumans to go with Daisy, Lincoln, Joey, and Yo-Yo (assuming Yo-Yo is ever on the show again) would make SHIELD look like a formidable threat to Hydra again, and now that Hydra is is growing more menacing with their attempted coups and evil Inhuman body snatcher, SHIELD needs to be a threat again. There are nine more episodes left in the season, and we know that next week’s will focus on the public reaction to the Inhumans. It’s not too early to ramp things up as we drive towards the season finale.

Favorite Scene

I have to go with that ending. It hadn’t fully sunk in for me that Bobbi and Hunter were really leaving the show. It just seemed so sudden, and I didn’t feel like we had gotten proper closure on these characters. Then the shot glasses started arriving at their table one-by-one and we all knew. It was sad seeing everyone silently raise a glass to these two disavowed spies, but it was the perfect sendoff. Nothing needed to be said, it was just a moment to take a shot and walk away. Perfect ending.
