By now you’ve awoken to find that Marvel Studios has given us something to truly be thankful for: the first wide-release trailer for Captain America: Civil War.
Let me make the understatement of the year by saying this was an exciting thing to watch first thing in the morning, and I have some thoughts
A More Personal Story
The Superhuman Registration Act appears to be taking a backseat to a far more personal story. While the act (re-named the Sokovia Accords for this film) made a brief appearance in the scene between Rogers and General Ross, this story appears to be about Steve Rogers in a race against time to save his oldest and best friend, Bucky Barnes. That’s not only a great change, but it’s a logical follow-up to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
A Captain America Story
Like me, many of you probably looked at the cast list for film and assumed it was really another Avengers movie. After watching the trailer, I can see how this really is a Captain America film. The other Avengers are there, but this is a story about Cap and how he is going to save and, ultimately, redeem his friend. The rest of the Avengers are a supporting cast; this film looks to be driven by Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Bucky Barnes.
You might have missed him if you blinked, but Black Panther made his first appearance in the trailer and he looks amazing.
For people that don’t read the comics, I’m exceedingly excited for you to meet T’Challa, a.k.a., Black Panther, for the first time.
Thanks for reading!
